Bill Anderson-Bright lights and Country Music.

Whispering Bill Anderson had a big hit with this Decca release. Rick Nelson also had this out on one of his country albums.

Bill was a major star. This is just one of his many big hits. There are still his albums available. He also had a show on The Nashville Network called Fandango. He was a great act to see live also, and is still seen on the Opry.

I love Bill’s music and love this song – wish they’d let him sing the full thing on the Opry, anytime I hear him do it he only ever gets the one line of it!

This clip is from the landmark 1966 motion picture, “Las Vegas Hillbillys”, which stars Ferlin Husky, Don Bowman and Jane Mansfield. The late, great Jimmy Gateley does a superb job on backing vocals. From here, Bill Anderson went on to introduce Connie Smith singing his “Nobody But A Fool”, with the Po’ Boys staying on board to back her. Truly one of country music’s finest moments ever!

I just came across this video. What a treat! The steel picker (Weldon Myrick) is still my best friend to this day. Back in about 1962, Bill and band came to my hometown, and I rode on the bus with Bill and gang to one of the places locally where they were playing, and I have a old home movie of the get together. Cool.
