Peanuts and Pregnancy

Peanuts are one of the most favorite snacks around the world. This could be eaten deep fried, steamed, or even as a jam, or the peanut butter. As harmless as it may look, this small nut can actually cause fatality and such great difficulties for some. If you know anyone who has peanut allergies, they will tell you that their life is much more complicated that you would normally think. This is because peanut allergy is one of the most severe form of allergy and a simple exposure to this nut is enough to cause such great trouble, and even death in some.

Those with kids who have peanut allergies will tell you that they have to take such great precaution to ensure that their children will not be harmed. They have to inspect labels of the food they buy, they have to ask in restaurants if by any chance the dish contains peanuts, and special arrangements must be made with the child’s school to ensure that the child will not be able to eat any peanut.

Allergies to peanut are usually first seen in children aged two or three. The American Academy of Pediatrics actually suggests that if your family has a history of peanut allergy, do not give your child any peanuts until he reaches the age of three. And for those who are pregnant is advised not to intake any peanuts most especially during the third trimester. And this is whether they have family history or not.

The reason behind this is that peanut allergy supposedly develops when the child first comes contact with small traces of peanuts. The body will sensitize itself from the peanut so it develops an allergic reaction to it the next time it encounters the element. Some experts believe that this first contact could occur during pregnancy. Some studies actually show that it is four times more likely for babies with mothers who ate peanuts or peanut butter during pregnancy to develop allergies than those who do not eat these during pregnancy.

However, this is not a conclusive statement and you should not completely eradicate peanuts in your diet. Remember that peanuts are actually a healthy food and may actually be good for you and your baby. The best thing to do is to consult your doctor and ask for his expert advises. Surely he will be able to assist and guide you.

Exercise During Pregnancy

During pregnancy, some women find it very hard to think of exercising. Well, with all the things they are experiencing through the nine months, who is to blame them? The first three months of pregnancy is such a nauseas stage, the next three months is very tiring and during the last three months some pregnant women can hardly move at all. Now imagine having to exert extra effort to do some exercises…

There are others though who have relatively easier pregnancies and are absolute gym rats. These women won’t let their protruding tummies to stop them from doing their regular set of exercises.

If we are to ask the doctors, which one is better, they will most probably tell you it’s the one in the middle. Exercises are highly recommended during pregnancy. Proper exercises will prevent excessive weight gain, and help you get the strength you need for labor and delivery. Caution must be practiced though, as we cannot let our heart rates go high as it could pose some danger to your little baby. To be on the safe side, do the talk test when performing your exercises. The talk test would be talking while you are doing your exercises, and if you find it hard to speak out your words, then most probably you are exerting too much effort and should lay low a bit.

When pregnant, it is best not to experiment exercises that may actually not be safe for you and the baby. Try to ask your doctors for exercise routines that is good for your condition. Most probably, they will advise walking and will tell you to avoid floor exercises.

Most doctors would recommend pregnant women to walk at least thirty minutes for about three times a day. This is good as walking is low-impact, so it will not cause undue stress to your body, and yet it still is able to bring the good benefits such as maintaining a healthy weight and giving you enough strength. In the latter part of your pregnancy, walking would actually help bring you to labor.

All in all, we understand how some women find exercising a bit difficult during pregnancy. There is a tendency to just lie down and relax and not to exert any effort at all. However, this is not enough of an excuse. Even at your biggest tummy, you have to stand up, work out, and bring yourself to a healthier pregnancy.

Eating to Prevent Heartburn

It has been documented on several researches that pregnant women experience heartburn most of the time. Now, before we discuss how to possible prevent this, it is important for you to understand what heartburn is. Now, contrary to its name, heartburn has nothing to do with the heart. Your heart is not in fire or whatever crazy idea you might think of. When we say heartburn, we refer to the scenario wherein the acids in your stomach reflux and rise to your esophagus. One in every four women will experience this during pregnancy. This is mostly because the pressure of your uterus constricts the stomach.

This article will try to discuss with you ways on how you can prevent this during pregnancy. Hopefully, after you have read this article, you will be among the 3 in every four women that do not experience this at all.

You can start by taking it slow when eating your food. Your stomach will be able to digest your food better and it does not need to work extra hard. Added to that, you will be able to enjoy your food more. Also, eat way before bedtime. Your body will not be able to digest your food properly while you are asleep so make sure you give your body enough time to digest what you ate before heading straight to bed.

You also have to keep you food intake small. If you eat a heavy meal, the stomach will have to work doubly hard to digest this. Big meals also tend to stuff the stomach and may easily cause the heartburn. The more contents of your stomach, the more chances it will rise and reach your esophagus.

You must also keep the fluids and solid intake separate. When too much fluid is mixed with food, it may affect the stomach, which will cause the heartburn. It is best to eat sitting straight up. Do not eat while on bed, or if you really must, have your head supported and raised by pillows.

The amount you weigh will also affect your heartburn. You have to make sure you do not exceed the recommended weight increase because the bigger you are, the more chances your stomach will get squeezed and cause heartburn.

Remember that heartburn is not a must for pregnant women. You can avoid this, just be sure you take care of your body and eat right. There is an old saying that if you experience heartburn during pregnancy, your baby will have a head full of hair. I do not know if that has any factual basis, but let me assure you that even without heartburn, your baby could still have that head full of hair.

Eating Well While Dealing With Morning Sickness

Very few are those pregnant women who do not suffer from morning sickness. They are what we can call the lucky ones. For the rest of the pregnant population, morning sickness is a normal occurrence. Morning sickness despite its name does not occur only during mornings. As most pregnant women will attest, this pregnancy complication could be felt throughout the day. For those who do not know, what is it actually?

Morning sickness is the general term that is used for the feelings of nausea, vomiting and food o smell aversion that women have during the early stages of pregnancy. Most women would report that they experience dizziness most of the times, and they will often want to vomit. For some, it is just a feeling of nausea but for others, actual vomiting may occur. Triggers of the nausea differ between different people. Some find smells of food aversive, while some just simply feel it. Though this is a normal occurrence in pregnancy, there are simple steps that you could do to try to alleviate this.

To start with, it is important that you eat a lot. Now that may be a bit difficult for someone who find foods aversive, but trust me, you will actually feel better if you have food inside your stomach. If your stomach is empty, the acids inside will have nothing to absorb it and it will wreak havoc on your stomach. This is the reason why morning sickness usually happens when we wake up, because during that time, the stomach was on fasting for a long time and has no contents to ease the discomfort. So the best thing to do is eat small but plenty meals throughout the day. Instead of having 3 big meals, why not make it into 6 small instead? That way, your body will be able to cope with the complications that pregnancy brings. It is also good if you have snacks right before you go to bed and just after you wake up. You can have snacks high carbohydrates in protein. This will include nuts, crackers, cheese, yogurt and bread sticks.

Another thing you have to do is to drink lots of water. When you are vomiting, you can easily get dehydrated so you must have the necessary fluids to replace the lost ones. Make sure you are able to drink 8 glasses of water everyday. You can also add on some juices to give you more flavors.

The first three months of pregnancy is hard, well actually the whole nine months is. You will feel a lot of complications that you might find hard to battle but with the proper diet, know that you can make it through and have a good and healthy pregnancy.

Eating Well For You During Pregnancy

A lot of studies and articles have established the fact that you must eat healthy during pregnancy so your baby will be healthy as well. There is no question in that; we do not argue the fact that eating healthy during pregnancy has a lot of good effects to your unborn baby. However, having a healthy diet during pregnancy is not just for the baby alone. There is one more person who benefits from your healthy diet during pregnancy. That person we are talking about is you.

We know how difficult pregnancy is. Rarely do women have a stress-free and problem-free pregnancy. Most of the times, women suffer from all the little and not so little things that come with pregnancy. During the first trimester, we have nausea and fatigue. During the second trimester we have the usual bouts of constipation, heartburn and diabetes. During the last trimester we have varicose veins and back aches. Too many complaints for a bit too long, the body is definitely under a lot of stress during pregnancy. Therefore, a good and healthy diet is needed not just by the baby but the pregnant mother as well.

It has been said that some of the complications during pregnancy could be avoided if the woman follows a healthy diet. If a woman eats healthy during pregnancy, then she will have a relatively safe and uncomplicated trimester. Complex carbohydrates is actually good as it helps gives the woman extra energy to relieve tiredness. If fatty food is avoided, heartburns might be avoided as well. Preeclampsia can be avoided by the intake of lots of vitamin C, E and magnesium and it could be aggravated by an intake of too much sugar.

Among the biggest benefits of eating healthy during pregnancy is the help it gives during actual labor and delivery. It is said that a healthy diet could prevent a pre-term labor from occurring. Pre-term is when the woman goes to labor before the 37th week of pregnancy. Also, if the woman had a good diet during pregnancy, she will have the needed energy during labor and delivery. You can go ahead and ask any woman who has given birth, she will tell you that energy is really needed during this last few moments of pregnancy. Labor and delivery is no easy feat. You will need to have the strength and endurance to make it through the painful contractions and the heavy pushing. Eating healthy throughout your pregnancy will make sure that you have the energy needed during labor and delivery.

Now, after you have given birth to your baby, you should not stop from eating well. You are still weak from all the ordeals you went through and will still need the strength to recover. Some doctors actually recommend that for the next three months after giving birth, you have to eat as if you are still pregnant.

So you see, it is not just your baby who needs the food you eat. Along with the little one, the big and bloated one needs the nourishment as well. So do not by any means restrict you from eating healthy. Eat lots of good and healthy food. Be careful however. When we say eat healthy, it is not synonymous to eat plenty. Too much unhealthy food will also be bad for you.

Eating Well Even After Your Pregnancy

After 9 months, you are finally an official mommy. Congratulations. After nine months of carrying the child within you, your baby has finally been delivered. Most would think that once the baby has been delivered, the difficulties of motherhood have ended. Not really. Though the side effects of pregnancies will now disappear, the difficulties for your body is not yet to end.

After delivery, your body is yet to recover from the hardships it experienced. If you underwent a C-section, your body will have to recover from the surgery. If you had a normal delivery, your body will have to recover from the trauma and the pain.

This is why eating right is not only advised during pregnancy, but even after birth as well. After the ordeals of childbirth, you have to ensure that everything is working well in side of you. And one thing that is usually the victim of childbirth is the bowel movement.

The first bowel movement is very monumental after giving birth. For those who had episiotomy, the thought of the first bowel movement is very scary. However, one does not have to be afraid. There are things you can do to prevent you from having difficulties. The first thing you have to do is eat foods with lots of fiber and to drink lots of water. This will make the bowel movement less painful.

Now, once you are at home, it does not mean that you can now rest. With the birth of your baby, the task of taking care of him or her will really take a toll on your body. You most definitely will not be able to sleep well. If you do not eat healthy, you will really not be able to have enough energy to last you the whole day.

So it is important for you to eat right after giving birth. Eat balanced meals, and always have healthy snacks available for you to munch on. Try to stay away from sweets and coffee because though they can give you instant highs, these will just be temporary and will just cause you to feel more exhausted after.

We all know how difficult pregnancy is; we have to understand now that post partum period is as difficult. We have to take care of our body and we have to eat right. This is for you to be physically ready to take on the challenge of being a mom, and to be emotionally and mentally prepared for the tasks ahead of you.

Eating To Conceive

It is already common knowledge that eating well during pregnancy is very important. We know this to be true because the baby is getting all its nutrients from the mother’s baby and whatever the mom eats, that what the baby eats as well.

However, it is not well known that eating good is also needed even before you get pregnant. For those who are trying to conceive, it is important for you to prepare your body for the challenge of pregnancy.

Once you have decided you want to get pregnant, go to your doctor and seek his advise. He will tell you if your body is physically ready to have a baby. He would either advise to gain a few weights, or chances are, he might also ask you to lose some first before getting pregnant.

Now, once the decision is firm, you have to act like you really do want a baby. Start eating healthy and start to avoid smoking, caffeine and alcohol. We know that smoking has very bad effects to the baby’s health, but that is not the only thing it affects. It could also affect your fertility level. So the more you smoke, the less chance for you to get pregnant. Also, if you don’t quit at once, there might come a point that you are already pregnant and you are still smoking. Remember that most pregnancy test will be able to tell you are positive only after the second week. So that is two weeks of cigarette smoke for your baby. For others, this may actually be even more.

For alcohol, it has been found that exposure of alcohol during the early weeks of pregnancy may cause birth defects on children. SO it is best to stop while it is early and prevent any possibilities of any birth defects occurring.

From this point, you already have to start taking in lots of vitamins and minerals. This will help your body prepare and give you a healthy pregnancy you can feel safely about. Aside from taking in vitamins, water intake should be increased as well. The water will be able to flush out all the toxins within.

Getting pregnant may be no trouble for some. For others though, this may be a difficult feat. To increase your chances of pregnancy, follow the steps we have suggested. Remember as well that is not enough for you to get pregnant, you actually have to give birth. Taking care of your body even before you do get pregnant is one way to move closer to having that bouncing baby boy you want.

For those who are pregnant, a common answer to the question “How are you feeling” is “ I feel tired”. This is common because fatigue is a very usual occurrence in pregnant women. During pregnancy, the body is working hard because of the challenge posed by the growing baby. The body also produces more blood and more water and nutrients is used. You will see that during pregnancy, a short walk may already be so tiresome as well as other activities you have done so easily before.

Now, the easiest way to combat this is to go ahead and rest. However, there are times that this is not possible, like if you are working. In this case, several other steps could be done to help you battle the pregnancy fatigue. This article will try to give suggestions on how to change your diet that could help you feel less tired during the day.

The first thing we would suggest is for you to change your meal size. Instead of eating 3 heavy meals, it might actually better to have 6 small meals throughout the day. If you eat big, too much energy will be taken from you in trying to digest the big meal. So eat small, but eat plenty.

The next thing you have to do is to ensure that you eat breakfast regularly. When we wake up, our body needs nourishment because it was on fasting while you were sleeping. A good breakfast will be able to provide this and give you the energy to face the day ahead.

Eating a good breakfast does not mean you can skip lunch though. It is important for you to eat all the major meals of the day, even in small servings. You will need the nutrients from lunch to give you the fuel to sustain you.

You need an extra 300 calories per day if you are pregnant. It is important that you get these calories from healthy food such as nuts, vegetables and cheese. Chocolates, candy and sodas may get you more tired than after the initial boost of energy. You have to eat lots of iron too, as fatigue may actually be a sign of iron deficiency in the body.

So to avoid fatigue, just manage your eating and eat well. Of course, if you are able to rest, go ahead and indulge yourself. Stay away from the late night TV shows that you watch. Have an early night cp instead. You will need all the energy you can get during pregnancy, and believe us; sleep will come harder once the baby is out.

Eating For Breastfeeding

Babies are very much dependent to their mothers when it comes to food intake. As early as the third trimester, the baby is able to taste the foods that the mother eats. And once the baby is out, breastfeeding will give the baby more taste of the mother’s food.

For mothers who breastfeed, the normal milk output is about 23 to 27 ounces per day. Now, this is something that mothers should give a little attention to. For the body to be able to produce enough milk, certain changes in diet should happen.

First of all, mothers should increase water intake to about 2 ½ to 3 quarts per day. The water that mothers’ drink actually goes straight to milk production so they may find themselves a little thirstier than usual. Despite this need for water intake increase, caution must also be practiced because too much water intake may actually affect the milk production rate inversely. SO it is best to stick to an additional 3 quarts a day.

The caloric intake of mothers should be raised as well. Normal caloric intake is about 2000; if they plan to breastfeed then they have to increase this to 2500 calories. It is advisable not to get these calories from junk foods because they offer empty calories that have no nutritional value for the baby. It is best if you eat more protein.

Aside from the increase in intake that mothers should have, they must also avoid certain foods while breastfeeding. These include garlic and onions because the milk tends to get their flavor and the baby may not want to drink. Mothers should also avoid greasy foods because this can upset the stomach of the baby. This goes the same way for spicy foods.

Too much caffeine must also be avoided during breastfeeding because it may give harmful effects to the baby. If we think practically, we would know that alcohol is definitely a no-no for breastfeeding mothers as well. We do not want the babies to suffer from the ill effects of alcohol, right?

Always remember that during breastfeeding, your milk is what you eat. So what you eat will actually determine the nutritional value your baby gets from the milk. Be careful of the little choices you make. Eat healthy. If you are breastfeeding your baby, then eating for two does not end when you gave birth. It holds true even as you breastfeed.
